German submarines for Pakistan
Pakistan plans to buy German-made submarines for the first time, but is still technologically behind its nuclear rival India. Pakistan will purchase three Type 214 German submarines under deal worth more than $1 billion (773.7 million euros). The German shipbuilding company Howaldtswerke-Deutsche Werft GmbH (HDW) will construct the diesel-electric submarines in a shipyard in Pakistan`s southern port city of Karachi.

Kawasaki Heavy Industries XP-1 Patrol Aircraft
Japan`s defence ministry has taken delivery of Kawasaki Heavy Industries` prototype XP-1 maritime patrol aircraft for a long-term programme of test and evaluation activities. Flown for the first time in 2007, the demonstrator has completed an initial 11-month phase of testing by its prime contractor, which expects to build 70 production P-1s to replace Japan`s KHI/Lockheed Martin P-3C Orions.

Mobile Mixing Plant from Wirtgen
Wirtgen (Germany) has introduced its new KMA 220 mobile cold mixing plant. It can be used in a wide range of applications, offering a mixing capacity of up to 220 tonnes/hour for the production of high quality cold mixes. The KMA’s 220 tonne capacity is 10% greater than its predecessor, the KMA 200. Power comes from a six cylinder diesel developing 131 kW (176 hp) in a soundproof housing that can be switched to a economical ECO mode during non-productive periods.

Caterpillar New Plant in Tamil Nadu
A Memorandum of Understanding was signed between the Government of Tamil Nadu and Caterpillar India Ltd. to set up a heavy engineering equipment manufacturing plant near Chennai with a capital investment of Rs 800 crore (173.3 million U.S. dollars). The plant will manufacture heavy engineering equipment which is used in the construction and mining industry.

Piracy Hijackings in the Gulf of Aden
As a result of the recent development in piracy hijackings in the area, AP Moller-Maersk (Denmark) has updated its policy for vessels entering the Gulf of Aden and off the coast of East Africa. For the time being, vessels without adequate speed or freeboard will avoid the Gulf of Aden and seek alternative routing south of the Cape of Good Hope and east of Madagascar.
