John Deere (USA) has launched its Mannheim-built 5R Series tractors that are aimed at medium-sized mixed farms and small arable growers. The three-model range replaces the company's 5020 Series and comprises the 5080, 5090 and 5100 with power ratings of 80hp, 90hp and 100hp, respectively.
Power is provided by a Tier 3, 4.5-litre PowerTech engine – the same two-valve, common-rail engine used in the 6030 Series. Deere offers a choice of two transmissions, the basic 16/16 PowrQuad Plus and the higher-specification 16/16 AutoQuad Plus, both of which provide four ranges with four powershift gears for a speed range of 3.3kph to 40kph. An electric power reverser is supplied as standard, as is a declutch button that can be used instead of the foot clutch. A full-frame chassis has boosted the carrying capacity of the tractors by 20%. Maximum load weight is now 6600kg.
