In a step away from the popular JCB Fastrac, the latest tractor from JCB the 7000 series looks much more like a conventional tractor, with rear-mounted cabin, compared to the Fastrac's centre-mounted cab. But it retains some of the Fastrac's capabilities, including high road speed. The four models in the 7000 series range all have a rated road speed of 70km/h. Powered by Cummins 6.7-litre engines, the tractors are available in four sizes - the 7170 (133kW), 7200 (145kW), 7230 (171kW) and 7270 (201kW).
The new cabin is much larger than that found on the Fastrac and contains a genuine passenger seat. Other refinements include load-sensing, self-levelling, hydro-pneumatic rear suspension and easily accessed rear wheel disc brakes, to help cater for extra control at high speeds. The new JCB's transmission is known as a P-TRONIC, or 24-speed, semi-powershift transmission with six powershift gears in four ranges.
