Automated Metro in Helsinki
Helsinki City Transport (HKL) has chosen Siemens to renovate its metro network. HKL has contracted the Mobility Division at Siemens to supply a driverless metro system worth around 100 million euros.

The first Korean KTX-II train
Celebration has been held at the Hyundai Rotem plant in Changwon to launch the country’s first locally-developed 300 km/h trainset. KTX-II is the commercial evolution of the HSR-350 prototype, which was developed under a project led by the Ministry of Knowledge & Economy, and the Ministry of Education, Science & Technology. The first trainset is expected to undergo six months of test running before entering revenue service.

New red trains from Alstom
Nuovo Trasporto Viaggiatori (NTV), the first private rail operator in Italy, has unveiled in Rome the livery of the AGV very high speed train fleet to be used on the Italian rail network from 2011. In January 2008 NTV announced that it had chosen Alstom to supply and maintain 25 ultra-modern AGV trains. The red livery, with a narrow golden stripe along the carriages, is a perfect match for the shape of the trains. Italian flags indicate the train operator’s country of origin.

Alstom Regional Trains
The test run of Alstom (France) Coradia Lirex train on in-house test track in Germany has been successful. The first train of the 79 trainsets ordered by Deutche Bahn will enter into service at the end of 2008. Coradia LIREX has been established as an international Alstom Regional train platform that will be called Coradia Continental.

New Electric Locomotives from Bombardier
Bombardier Transportation (Canada) has been awarded a contract for 27 ALP-46A electric locomotives by the New Jersey Transit Corporation. The powerful new locomotives will help NJ TRANSIT expand capacity in its passenger rail operations. The firm order for 27 locomotives is valued at an estimated 155 million euros.
